MASTERWORKS — Floral Gun Bouquet Reconstruction Series

Created entirely through Brent Ray Fraser’s signature Brush Stroke Technique, War Machine expands upon the artist’s ongoing exploration of firearms, masculinity, sexuality, violence, and transformation through embodied mark making. Though Fraser has never fired a real weapon himself, he remains deeply fascinated by the symbolic parallels between firearms, male power, performance, fear, and desire.

Where earlier revolver studies carried a sense of intimacy and confrontation, War Machine introduces a far more aggressive psychological presence. Inspired by Fraser’s lifelong admiration for action heroes and cinematic spectacle, the work specifically references the legendary Kalashnikov-pattern rifles famously wielded by John Rambo throughout the Rambo films. The weapon becomes not merely an object, but an exaggerated cultural symbol of dominance, survival, rebellion, and hyper masculinity.

This work also continues Fraser’s conceptual evolution from his original Floral Gun Bouquet series first created in 2012, where photographed toy firearms were paired with elaborate handmade floral arrangements constructed inside The Silo Studio using flowers often grown in the artist’s own garden. After years of being asked whether those original works were body painted or photographed objects, Fraser began reconstructing the firearms entirely through his Brush Stroke Technique, creating prototype studies intended to eventually merge with the original floral bouquet imagery documented years earlier.

Influenced additionally by the pop iconography of Andy Warhol and the theatrical exaggeration of action cinema, Fraser transforms the assault rifle into an emotionally charged contemporary relic suspended between destruction and beauty, violence and performance, aggression and vulnerability.

Entirely executed using Fraser’s body driven Brush Stroke Technique and completed exclusively with the artist’s manhood, the work merges action painting, pop expressionism, physical endurance, and live performative creation into a singular confrontation between the body and the weapon.
