Alpine Solitude (2023)
Based on a photograph by longtime collaborator Steven Love Menendez, Alpine Solitude reflects Brent Ray Fraser’s enduring connection to nature, travel, friendship, and artistic collaboration. The image captures the artist moving through a rugged landscape, drawing inspiration from years of shared creative exploration and outdoor adventures.
Featured in NUDUS ERECTUS, Fraser’s first solo exhibition in New York City, the work formed part of a larger presentation exploring the relationship between the body, landscape, and artistic identity through Fraser’s signature Brush Stroke Technique.
Entirely self-taught as a painter, Fraser developed a visual language characterized by dynamic composition, expressive mark making, and dramatic colour relationships. Here, cool alpine blues and icy tones contrast against a radiant sky of fiery reds, oranges, and yellows, creating a powerful tension between solitude and vitality.
Part self portrait and part landscape, Alpine Solitude serves as a tribute to the friendships, experiences, and natural environments that have shaped Fraser’s artistic journey.
