MASTERWORKS — Landscape Study Series

Part of Brent Ray Fraser's ongoing Landscape Study Series, Radiant Divide (Mountain Study VI) is a large-scale original painting inspired by a lifetime spent exploring the mountains, forests, and wilderness of British Columbia. Rather than depicting a specific location, Fraser creates imagined hybrid landscapes from memory, intuition, and movement, allowing the composition to emerge spontaneously in real time.

Created entirely through Fraser's signature body painting process, the work was executed without traditional brushes. Using his body, hands, fingers, and direct physical contact with the canvas, Fraser built the landscape through layered gestures, pressure, and movement. Handprints remain embedded throughout the surface, leaving behind a permanent physical record of the artist's presence within the work.

Inspired in part by the dramatic mountain forms popularized by Bob Ross and his palette knife techniques, Fraser sought to achieve a similar sense of scale, texture, and atmosphere through the human body itself. Jagged peaks, sweeping valleys, silhouetted trees, vibrant grasses, and a blazing sunset were all created freestyle in the moment, without preliminary sketches or reference imagery.

The composition is defined by striking complementary contrasts. Cool blues and icy whites collide against fiery reds, oranges, and yellows, creating a dramatic tension between warmth and shadow. Framed by towering trees and illuminated by a radiant horizon, the landscape balances tranquility with energy, inviting viewers into a place that feels both familiar and imagined.

Executed in acrylic on canvas and hand-signed by the artist.
